Tech Tip: How to Inspect Polaris Fuel Injectors and Fuel Pressure

Your Polaris EFI (Electronic Fuel Injection) system is a high-pressure environment. For the engine to run crisply, the fuel pump must maintain a steady pressure (usually around 45-58 PSI depending on the model), and the injectors must deliver a fine, atomized mist. If the pressure drops or an injector becomes partially clogged by "varnish" from old fuel, the engine will run "lean," which can lead to overheating and melted pistons.

Step 1: The Fuel Pressure Test

Before blaming the injectors, you must ensure the fuel pump is delivering enough "push" to the fuel rail. You will need a fuel pressure gauge with a Schrader valve attachment.

• The Static Test: Connect the gauge to the fuel rail and turn the key to the "ON" position (do not start). The pump should prime, and the needle should jump to the factory spec immediately.
