Every combustion stroke starts with a spark, and NGK has been making that spark for ATV, UTV and powersports owners for generations. The NGK Standard Spark Plug DCPR9E (stock 2641) is engineered to fire reliably from cold start to redline.

Witchdoctors stocks genuine NGK spark plugs by NGK part code and stock number. Check the fitment below, confirm the code against your owner’s manual or current plug, and order with confidence.

Why Choose the NGK Standard Spark Plug DCPR9E

NGK standard spark plugs are the plugs many manufacturers install at the factory. They use a copper core that pulls heat away from the firing tip, a pure alumina silicate ceramic insulator for strength and heat transfer, triple seals to prevent combustion leakage, and corrugated ribs that help prevent flashover. Trivalent metal plating on the shell resists corrosion and seizing in the cylinder head.

Key Features and Benefits

  • Copper core for efficient heat removal
  • Pure alumina silicate ceramic insulator
  • Triple seals prevent combustion gas leakage
  • Corrugated insulator ribs help prevent flashover
  • Trivalent metal plating for anti-corrosion and anti-seize protection

Specifications

  • Brand: NGK Spark Plugs
  • NGK part code: DCPR9E
  • NGK stock number: 2641
  • Plug type: Standard
  • Thread diameter: 12 mm (D)
  • Hex: 5/8" hex (C)
  • Insulator: Projected insulator tip (P), which helps the plug self-clean and resist fouling
  • Resistor: Built-in resistor (R), which suppresses radio-frequency interference with electronics
  • Heat range: 9 (NGK scale: lower numbers are hotter, higher numbers are colder)
  • Thread reach: 19 mm (3/4") (E)
  • Quantity: sold individually unless noted otherwise

How to Read the NGK Code DCPR9E

NGK part codes describe the plug. The first letter gives the thread diameter (A = 18 mm, B = 14 mm, C = 10 mm, D = 12 mm), and the letters after it describe the construction: C or K for a 5/8" hex, M for a compact shell, P for a projected insulator, R for a resistor. The number is the heat range. The letter after the number is the thread reach (E = 19 mm, H = 12.7 mm, L = 11.2 mm, F = tapered seat), followed by design letters. A number after the dash means a wide gap, for example -9 = .036" and -11 = .044". Iridium IX plugs add “IX”, and a “SOLID” suffix means a solid terminal. The decoded values for DCPR9E are in the specifications above.

What Heat Range Means

Heat range describes how quickly a plug transfers heat from its firing tip into the cylinder head. On NGK’s scale, a lower number is a hotter plug and a higher number is a colder plug. A plug that runs too cold fouls with carbon, and one that runs too hot can overheat and cause pre-ignition. Stick to the heat range your manufacturer specifies unless a tuner recommends a change for a modified engine, high-altitude riding or racing.

Fitment and Compatibility

Witchdoctors catalog fitment (models and years): Can-Am Ds 450 2008–2009.

Multi-cylinder engines need one plug per cylinder, and some V-twins use two plugs per cylinder, so check how many your engine takes before ordering. Engines that have been modified, such as big-bore, high-compression or turbo builds, may need a different heat range or gap.

Signs It’s Time for New Spark Plugs

  • Hard starting, especially when cold
  • Rough or hunting idle
  • Misfires, stumbling or hesitation under acceleration
  • Reduced power and fuel economy
  • Fouled, worn or eroded electrodes at inspection
  • Reaching the service interval in your owner’s manual

Installation Tips

  1. Let the engine cool completely, and blow debris away from the plug wells with compressed air before you remove the old plugs.
  2. Check the gap with a wire-type gauge. Adjust only by carefully bending the ground electrode.
  3. Thread the plug in by hand to avoid cross-threading.
  4. Tighten to the torque in your service manual. NGK notes that its trivalent plating means anti-seize is generally not needed, and anti-seize can lead to over-tightening.
  5. Reinstall the plug cap or coil until it clicks firmly onto the terminal.

A spark plug wire boot puller makes removing tight caps easier without damaging the wires.

Reading Your Old Plugs

  • Tan or light gray: normal. The engine and heat range are well matched.
  • Black and sooty: running rich, excessive idling, a dirty air filter, or a plug that is too cold.
  • Wet or oily: oil consumption from worn rings or valve seals, or a flooded engine.
  • White or blistered: running lean, ignition timing too far advanced, or a plug that is too hot. Investigate before riding hard.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is DCPR9E the same plug as my original?

If your owner’s manual or current plug shows the same NGK code, yes. If your original is another brand, use a cross-reference and confirm the thread, reach, hex and heat range before installing.

How often should I replace my spark plugs?

Follow the interval in your owner’s manual. Iridium and laser iridium plugs typically last much longer than standard nickel plugs, but off-road, high-rpm and racing use shortens the life of any plug.

Can I upgrade from a standard plug to Iridium IX?

In many applications NGK offers an Iridium IX plug in the same heat range. It is a popular upgrade for crisper throttle response and easier starting. Match the heat range, thread and reach to the original.

Do I need to gap the plug?

Check the gap against your manual. Many plugs come pre-gapped. On iridium plugs, never touch the center electrode when checking or adjusting the gap.

Should I use anti-seize?

NGK states that its trivalent metal plating provides anti-seize protection, so anti-seize is generally unnecessary and can cause over-tightening. If you use it, reduce the torque accordingly.
